Find out about the important part played by the county during the Civil War. Mainly Parliamentarian supporting, there were nevertheless pockets of Royalist supporters. The county’s proximity to the Royalist capital at Oxford meant that conflict was constant and widespread. Find out about John Hampden, the Battle of Aylesbury and the garrisons at Brill, Boarstall, Stony Stratford and Newport Pagnell. The talk explains the political and military context, yet includes too a significant number of personal stories, anecdotes and legacies relating to those caught up in the actions.
