Paul tells the fascinatiing story of the Antikythera mechanism an ancient Greek hand-powered orrery. A fascinating piece of ancient engineering of surprising accuracy used to predict astronomical positions and eclipses decades in advance. The mechanism was discovered by sponge divers off the Greek island of Antikythera in 1901. It is understood as the world's first analog computer, created to accurately calculate the position of the sun, moon, and planets.
