About the Event

What do ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ‘Hamlet’ and ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ all have in common? And why are pairs, parallels and doubles so important in Shakespeare? This talk discusses how these devices work, the way they reflect the challenges of life, and why they make some of his best known plays so compelling. The speaker was an English Literature scholar at Oxford, where he was involved in a number of Shakespearean productions, before having a career that included a national role in higher education.
