What the Victorian Railway did for you! - Richard Marks

We’re used to seeing railways portrayed as heroic engines of progress, but the truth is more complex — and often more local. In ‘What the Victorian Railway did for you!’ industrial and railway historian Dr Richard Marks invites you to look beyond the textbook tales and television tropes to discover how the arrival of the railway really affected your town. This talk explores the unexpected consequences of railway expansion: how it shaped local economies, altered social patterns, and sometimes disrupted more than it delivered.
